Compress an image to an exact size

ID photos, signatures and document scans get rejected every day for being "over the size limit". This tool works backwards from that limit: set the target in KB and it automatically finds the highest quality that fits under it — stepping down compression and, only if needed, dimensions. Several images at once are fine (they download as a ZIP), and your photos never leave your device.

This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. There is no upload step and no server processing — open your network panel and check: zero document data is transmitted. It even keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

    Frequently asked questions

How does it reach the exact KB target?

It re-encodes your photo as JPEG stepping down quality, and only reduces dimensions if quality alone isn’t enough — always keeping the largest, sharpest version that fits under your limit.

Why does my PNG come out as JPG?

PNG is lossless and often can’t reach small KB targets at all. For photos, JPEG reaches the same visual quality at a fraction of the size, so the output is JPEG — which is what upload forms expect anyway.

Will a 20 KB photo still look good?

For a passport-style photo or a signature, yes — 20 KB holds a clear, correctly-sized image. Large detailed photos need stronger reduction; the tool always keeps the best quality that fits and never fails silently.

Is it safe to use this tool with confidential documents?

Yes — and verifiably so. PDFAgent has no upload step: your file is processed by JavaScript running in your own browser and never leaves your device. You can open your browser’s network panel (or even go offline after loading the page) and confirm that no document data is transmitted.
